The Troians made a little bit of history Friday night, winning their first OK Black conference game in 4 years on as they defeated Kenowa Hills 69-61 in front of a raucous home crowd. Fruitport has now won 3 games in a row and is 3-2 on the season, and 1-0 in the OK Black.

1Q--F 19, KH 7

2Q--F 16, KH 15 (35-22)

3Q--F-16, KH 14 (51-36)

4Q--F 18, KH 25 (69-61)

The Trojans led all the way and proved clutch down the stretch as the Knights tried to claw their way back in the game. Big shots and free throws at the end helped Fruitport maintain a safe lead as they celebrated the school's first conference win since joining the OK Black.

Fruitport was led in scoring by Gavin Fisher, who scored 18 points. Senior point guard Marcelo Conklin scored a season high 16 points, and Luke Mitchell scored 14 points. Also scoring for the Trojans was Rico Jones with 8, Logan Manciu with 6, Ethan Flores with 5, and Flynn Stonecypher with 2.

Coach Steve Erny said, "I am so proud of this group, especially the seniors who have stuck in out over the past four years in a tough conference and have never given up or stopped working. The confidence level is so high right now with this group, and that comes from all the work they've put in and the time they've spent together. The season is still young, but tonight was a enormous victory for Fruitport basketball."

"Our defense has been our tone-setter all year. We got off to a hot start in this game because we were able to shut down Kenowa Hills on the defensive end, which led to easy offense on the other end. Our guys played with such heart and determination, they deserved this win. Now it's time to rest, recover, and get ready for GR Union on Tuesday night."

The Trojans will travel to Grand Rapids Union on Tuesday, January 14th in another OK Black game. Fruitport then does not have another game until Tuesday, January 21st, when they play host to Reeths-Puffer.
