Boys Varsity Basketball vs. Holton HS School

Game Date
Feb 4, 2020
Score
TROJANS: 67
HOLTON HIGH SCHOOL: 56

Fruitport defeated Holton on Tuesday night by a score of 67-56. The Trojans trailed at the half 34-32 but were able to come back in the second half with better team defensive intensity. The Trojans led 44-40 after the third and pulled away in the 4th quarter.

The highlight of the night was Gavin Fisher, who set a school record with 39 points. The previous record of 38 was set over 50 years ago by Bob Sarachman in 1968. Fisher's scoring prowess was on full display Tuesday night, as he scored from all different areas on the floor. He finished 6-10 from 3 pt range and 11-14 from the foul line. The record-breaking basket was scored as Fisher drove baseline near the end of the game hit a runner that softly bounced in off the rim.

Also scoring for the Trojans was Luke Mitchell with 11, Logan Manciu with 8, Adam Eitniear with 7, and Rico Jones and Marcelo Conklin each added 1 pt.

Leading the Trojans in rebounding was Ethan Flores with 7 and Adam Eitniear with 6. Fisher added 5 boards and Mitchell tallied 4.

Marcelo Conklin once again led the Trojans in assists, totaling 5. Ethan Flores added 4 assists.

Coach Erny said, "Obviously this was a big night for Gavin, setting the school scoring record. He is such a gifted scorer from all different levels on the floor, and our team was feeding it to him tonight. He continues to get stronger and stronger and has worked very hard to put himself in a position to set a record like this one."

"Unfortunately, we needed almost all Gavin's points tonight, as Holton did a good job, especially in the first half. We were much better engaged defensively in the second half and that, along with Gavin's big scoring output, really helped us come back and eventually pull away. We need to shore up some things as we get ready for the second round of OK Black games."

Fruitport travels to Kenowa Hills on Friday to take on the Knights, who are just behind the Trojans in the conference standings. Game time is 7:30 PM.
