Score

MONA SHORES HIGH SCHOOL: 64

Fruitport won a thrilling contest on the road against Mona Shores, taking the game in overtime by a score of 70-64. The back and forth battle was sealed at the free throw line for Fruitport, as the Trojans hit several clutch free throws down the stretch. Fruitport's senior forward Rico Jones played an outstanding game, finishing with 5 points and 8 rebounds. But more importantly, Jones stepped up and took two huge charges near the end of the game and in overtime.

Gavin Fisher led all scorers with 26 points. In the overtime, Fisher scored a couple of clutch buckets in overtime, including going 2 for 2 at the line with 10 seconds left to put the Trojans up 4 and essentially seal the game. Marcelo Conklin added two more free throws at the end to make the final score 70-64. Fisher added 7 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 blocks to complete a great all-around game.

Ethan Flores scored a season-high 14 points, Luke Mitchell added 10 points and 7 rebounds. Mitchell also hit two huge free throws at the end of regulation to help send the game into overtime. Marcelo Conklin added 8 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 assists. Logan Manciu added 7 points, and Rico Jones wrapped up the scoring with 5 points.

Coach Erny said, "This environment was awesome tonight. The gym was so loud at times and it felt like a state tournament game as far as the energy and noise goes. This was a great chance for our guys to play in a tight game in that enviroment and figure out a way to win. We had a lot of guys step up tonight and make plays. Gavin once again stepped up for us, scoring 26 pts and added clutch buckets at the end. But the guy I want to highlight tonight is Rico Jones. He does so much of the dirty work for us and almost never gets the accolades and praise. He stepped up and played a great game, and the sacrifice he made to take those charges tonight sparked us. He deserves to get some recognition for the way he plays the game for his teammates. Great job by Rico tonight."

The Trojans head back home on Tuesday as they take on Holton. Then Fruitport starts their second round of OK Black games as they travel to Kenowa Hills next Friday. Fruitport improves to 5-5 overall and 3-3 in the OK Black.
