Game Date
Dec 10, 2021
Score
TROJANS: 67
FRUITPORT CALVARY CHRISTIAN SCHOOLS: 52

The Fruitport Trojans made the short trip down the road to face Fruitport Calvary Christian on Friday night, winning the game 67-52. The Trojans ran out to early lead after the 1st quarter, 18-11. They led 35-23 at the half and 49-34 after 3 quarters. The lead was trimmed down to 7 in the 4th, but Fruitport was able to make enough plays to put the game on ice.

The Trojans had a very balanced scoring effort. Bode Anspach led the way with 16 pts. Andrew Spyke scored 14. Paschal Jolman added 12, and Ryan Mitchell also scored in double digits with 10. Ryan Laus added 9, Payton Flores scored 4, and Collin Jolman had 2.

Anspach and the Jolman brothers made life difficult on the Calvary guards all night, forcing many turnovers which led to run out scoring opportunities. Senior Ryan Laus finished the game strong, scoring all 9 of his points in the second half. Sophomore Ryan Mitchell hit two timely 3 pointers and some big free throws down the stretch, as well as taking a charge on defense. Junior big man Andrew Spyke was rock solid once again in the paint, both offensively and defensively. 10 of his 14 points were in the final quarter of the game.

A big factor leading to Fruitport being able to sustain a lead late in the game was free throws shooting. The Trojans as a team shot 8 of 10 from the line in the 4th, helping bring the game to a comfortable finish.

Fruitport improves to 1-1 on the season. The Trojans host Muskegon Catholic Central on Tuesday, Dec 14th and Belding on Friday, Dec 17th next week.
