Game Date
Sep 1, 2021
Score
TROJANS: 4
SPRING LAKE HIGH SCHOOL: 2

Fruitport defeated visiting Spring Lake by a score of 4-2 on Wednesday night.  The Trojans got off to a quick start as Bode Anspach notched a goal of a Zach Schaefer. Anspach struck again five minutes later to push the lead to 2-0 five minutes into the game.  The game remained 2-0 heading into the half.

In the second half the Lakers cut the lead to 2-1 10 minutes into the second half.  Sean Gieske found the back of the net to extend the lead off a Ryan Laus assist.  The Lakers countered with five minutes left to cut the lead 3-2.  Gieske was back at it as he found Jackson Rebone with three minutes left to solidify the result.

Justin Laus had fifteen saves in net for the Trojans who improve to 5-0 on the season.

Coach Hazekamp credited his whole team with a gutsy effort noting, "I am really happy for our boys to be able to have that moment.  We were down a few guys and the way they battled for 80 minutes exemplifies what this program is built on. It was a great environment against a very good team and the boys never hung their head and continued to work all night."  Hazekamp credited Ryan Laus, Sean Gieske, Jayce Thronton, and the backline of Jaxon Deneen, Noah Fehler, Brady Brown, and Tyler Kelly with special efforts.

The Trojans return to action next Wednesday against West Catholic.
