Fruitport went on the road and defeated Oakridge 6-1 to open their 2019 campaign. The Trojans jumped out to a 1-0 lead behind an Ellie Fisher goal. Oakridge answered back later in the half before Fisher scored again off a free kick to take a 2-1 lead into the half. The Trojans added some insurance in the second half behind goals from Kennah VerMerris, Sarah Zielinski, as well as two more goals from Fisher bringing her total to four on the night. Daisy Haack had two assists while Olivia Langlois and Zielinski each added an assist. 

The Trojans outshot the Eagles 22-1 in the game and improve to 1-0 on the season. 

Coach McClain was happy with her team’s effort noting, “I thought we did a nice job of knocking off some of the rust and moving the ball around and finding feet. Anytime you can find the net early in the season is a good sign. It was a great team effort that we can build on.”

Fruitport travels to Zealand East on Wednesday in a non conference tilt.
